Activities for dementia

Throughout the week we offer a variation of meaningful and fun activities. We have community links as we raise money for local charities and enter competitions such as the Portishead Flower Show, we continue to hold the cup! There are regular visiting acts that come and provide entertainment and we are not averse to any friendly furies visiting us either. We recognise that activities are just as important and individual as any other aspect of caring for those with dementia, therefore we offer a variety of activities and recognise the importance of both group and individual time.
The staff here at Gorselands are at ease with providing activities either independently or alongside our activities co-ordinator, this makes for increased opportunities to connect and socialise. As a versatile team we can provide as much or as little as any individual wishes to do, an important part of what we offer is the individualised activity and those small social groups that create a calming, non-intimidating space to just, ‘be’. We have had much success with reigniting old loves such as knitting and painting.
