We offer an environment that is reflective of who we are and our ethos. Gorselands has been family owned since the 1970’s and this family feel has never left. Dementia disrupts the brain cells working in different areas, impacting someone’s ability to think, speak and remember. ‘Dementia’ is a term to describe various types of progressive disorders that effect the brain in different ways. Unfortunately, Dementia is currently not reversible and is something that will only progress with worsening symptoms. Symptoms are often recognisable as; forgetfulness (memory loss), difficulty understanding the time of day or getting lost in places in familiar places, retaining information that is new, difficulty finding the right words and repetition within conversation. There are more than two hundred different subtypes of Dementia.

Although this is a situation that is common and scary for many, we are here to guide and support those living with Dementia and those close to them. Our range of experience is priceless. Often Dementia can be an anxious time for those who experience it, here at Gorselands we provide a safe, caring, and stable environment with support available at any given time. We believe that just because an individual may have new needs and be losing part of what they know as ‘normality’, does not mean there life still cannot have meaning and joy. We believe meeting people where they are at on their Dementia journey, and tailoring care to what they need on a day-to-day basis.

Mission statement

Our aim at Gorselands is to provide comfort, sustenance, and support to enable Residents to live a life that is full and according to their own habits and wishes. We aim to meet people where they are at in their journey, to understand them, know them as people and to ensure that the joy of companionship is met through all seasons of life.

We uphold dignity and respect whilst promoting peace and security in a home from home atmosphere. We believe in treating people as individuals and to allow each the right to responsible risk taking in an environment which is as safe as reasonably possible. It is important to offer stimulation, guidance, and encouragement to maintain skills, interests, and friendships in or out of the home, together with the opportunity to develop new interests and friendships.
It is our belief that everyone has the right to a fulfilling quality of life in which they are treated with respect and dignity and as an individual, with the freedom of self-expression in a place of safety and comfort.
